GLENN'S BIO

Position
: Nationally Syndicated Radio Host on 540 WFLA and CNN Headline News.
Resumé: Began his career in radio broadcasting at 13 after winning a local DJ contest and wound up with three different jobs at three radio stations in Seattle. Became a successful Top 40 DJ, but by 30, "alcohol and drug addiction took over." He went into recovery and became a Mormon. In January 2000, he moved to Tampa, Florida and landed a gig at WFLA (AM) hosting The Glenn Beck Program, a mix of comedy and conservatism. Within 18 months, the show became No. 1 in that market. He joined CNN Headline News last year. Currently, his radio broadcast is heard on nearly 200 stations and XM Satellite radio. Author of The Real America (Pocket, 2003) and the upcoming An Inconvenient Book (Threshold Editions). Editor-in-chief of Fusion, subtitled "Entertainment & Enlightenment" -- a monthly mix of right-wing editorials, humor, and future obituaries (including a recent entry chronicling the death of Katie Couric's career at CBS and the demise of 44-year-old broadcast itself -- "Katie Couric's career and the CBS Evening News died last week in what investigators are calling a double murder. A suspect, Katie Couric, 50, is being held for the slayings.")
Birthdate: February 10, 1964
Hometown: Mount Vernon, Washington
Education: Courses at Yale for one semester ("No big deal.")
Marital status: Married to second wife Tania, with four children; Mary, 18, Hannah, 16, (both from his first marriage); Raphe, 2, Cheyenne, "about to be one" with his current wife
First section of the Sunday Times: "The front section. I just read it cover to cover."
Favorite television show: "It was 24, but not this season. I think it's jumped the shark. It's probably a tie between House and The Office."
Last book read: "It's by Bob Thomas on Roy E. Disney" (Building A Company, Disney Press)
Guilty pleasure: "'My Grandmother's Chocolate Cake' from Allen Brother's steakhouse. Each piece is 3,000 calories. It's unbelievable."

Based in New York City,  Glenn Beck is casting a tall shadow as the next phenomenon of talk radio. The former Top 40 DJ entered the talk format in 2001 and already his show is broadcast on more than 200 stations nationwide. Millions of listeners are drawn to this modern-day story teller who is armed with a quick wit, an informed opinion, and a unique ability to inspire others to experience their full potential with an open heart. His on-air presence is both commanding and inviting – a trait he has been refining for the last 27 years.

Glenn started in radio when he was only 13 years old by winning a local radio contest to be a DJ for an hour. Soon after that auspicious day, Glenn had three jobs:   one at a Christian station, a Rock station, and a Country station, all of which his parents had to schlep him to in their home state of Washington. He was fired from all three jobs, on the same day when he was 14 years old!
After high school graduation, Glenn pursued his career as a Top 40 DJ at stations all over the country. Eventually, he landed an opportunity in Corpus Christi, Texas, as the youngest morning guy in the U.S. at 18 years old. His career was soaring and took him to Top 40 morning shows in Baltimore, Houston, Phoenix, Washington, and New Haven, Conn. He rode the wave of professional success into the 1990s when things began to change. Today, Glenn points out, when you have that kind of success that early in life, it's easy for you to turn into a monster. And I did!   I was not a good guy.
At the age of 30, Glenn lost his passion for radio, and everything else, as alcoholism and drug addiction took him over. Struggling to find some answers to his problem, Glenn pursued higher education. Though he was accepted by Yale as a Theology major, he lasted only one semester, faced with a divorce from his first wife and separation from his two daughters,  the oldest with Cerebral Palsy. He was emotionally and financially decimated and relegated to one of the smallest radio markets. The shooting radio star had fallen to earth. Finally, he turned to a program of recovery.
Coming to terms with his past and staying sober shifted his life direction. He found a new love (his second wife, Tania), religion (he was baptized Mormon in 2000), and a new vision of his career,  he would pursue talk radio.
Soon after his baptism, Glenn received a call from an agent who was interested in representing him. Days later, he had an offer to host his own talk radio show on WFLA-AM in Tampa, forcing him to move away from his daughters in New Haven. He and Tania decided to live in Tampa for two years and then, whether Glenn succeeded or failed, they would eventually move closer to his girls.
He inherited the 18th placed position at WFLA-AM and took it to the #1 position in his first year, giving the station its highest ratings ever. Within 18 months, Premiere Radio Networks, the leading radio syndication company in the country, offered Glenn the opportunity to go national. In January 2002, The Glenn Beck Program launched on 47 stations. Glenn has aired on 540 WFLA, Orlando since 9/11.
He also kept his promise to his daughters. The Glenn Beck Program, is now based in NYC and airs weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon.  Glenn Beck's Weekend Show airs Sunday 6p to 9p on 540 WFLA.  Nationally, GB is now ranked as the 3rd most listened to talk show in America among Adults 25-54.
Executive Producer/Head Writer Stu
Steve aka Stu was born in Tarrytown, NY on February 9, 1976. He discovered his love of radio at an early age; and by age five he was syndicated in the kitchen and den. He then became completely non-productive for several years, slacking his way through high school, and forgoing college.
Fortunately, Stu got back on track in 1997. He began working in radio promotions and finally began interning for The Glenn Beck Morning Show in 1998. It was here that the beautiful friendship was forged, and neither Glenn nor Stu would ever be the same.
Later that year, Stu became the producer of both the morning show and Glenn's first ever talk show, a venture that the creative brain trust of Beck and Burguiere aptly dubbed "The Glenn Beck Show." That was pulled off the air after approximately nineteen glorious seconds.
As an executive producer, Stu was responsible for coming up with new and exciting venues for the host, including: "Cigar Talk: The Impeachment of Character" (all Clinton scandal all the time) and "The Journey" (all sobbing all the time). Sadly, Stu cannot take credit for Glenn's other successful show, "Glenn Beck, Your Home, and You" which featured Glenn explaining easy and beautiful home improvement projects for the do-it-yourself-er, involving only spare clothes hangers, padded toilet seats, rainbow glitter, and excess pet hair.
Stu worked with Glenn locally on WABC in New York, on WELI in New Haven (a current Glenn Beck Program affiliate), on the nationally syndicated show "The Weekend," (on 540 WFLA Sundays 6p-9p).
Somewhere in there, Stu needed a little (big) break from Glenn, and decided to take over hosting duties when Glenn left his morning show in Connecticut.
As to why Stu left his stint in Connecticut, details become sketchy. Some suggest that Glenn blackmailed Stu with "secret evidence" in order to bring him back to the world of talk radio; the more cynical believe that Stu simply sucked so much as a morning jock that he begged Glenn for his old job back. Still a third group argues that Stu is just waiting for the opportune time to "mistakenly" disconnect Glenn's brakes and secure his spot as host of the show.
But for now, Stu slaves away as the Executive Producer/Head Writer/Sidekick/Dry Cleaning Picker Upper of the Glenn Beck Program. He lives in the Philadelphia area, loves really crappy food, and is married (sorry fellas!!!)
You can reach Stu at stu@glennbeck.com or telepathically at mind number 1153315655487131-B.  Additional information on Stu can be found here...

Olbermann continues to gush

All eyes were on Hillary Clinton last night as she gave the speech that Obama supporters hoped would establish the party unity they so desperately need. Apparently, judging by the reaction of democratic mouthpiece MSNBC, Keith Olbermann expressed much relief as he proclaimed 'grand slam' and then, apparently feeling that wasn't an exciting enough description added 'grand slam out of the ball park, across the street, over the buildings'. Glenn wonders, what will his reaction be to Bill Clinton...or Biden..or the Holy One himself (Obama)?
Read the transcript.

Speaking of holy---pictures have been leaked of the Obama stage for his convention speech. As Glenn says, it's at worst a Greek temple---at best it's the White House. Is this guy arrogant or what? Of course, it's hard to blame him for getting a big head when members of the press are constantly bowing down before him.
See the picture here.

Bat Doctors without Borders
Time is running out, if we don't act now to offset the carbon offsets from the Democratic National Convention then...then...your kids will DIE! Ok, probably not but those eco freaks have taught us a valuable lesson: fear mongering works. Please, get your pledges (i.e. running your dishwasher empty, burning tires, etc) to help pump all that carbon back into the atmosphere and help restore some smoot back into the environment.
Make your ONset pledge here.

ECI (Evil Conservative Industries) has partnered with Bat Doctors without Borders to help raise funds for the cause---how can you help? Save a bat---buy
this T-Shirt and ECI will idle its fleet of jets in your name. Read the transcript. Insiders listen here.

Malkin attacked
What happens at conventions for those peace loving Democrats isn't always peaceful. Just ask Fox News contributor Michelle Malkin, who was attacked by 9/11 conspiracy theorists outside the convention in Denver. WARNING: Most of the people (besides Malkin and a couple of others) in this video are the biggest losers you have ever seen and there is a chance you may begin to feel icky just for watching these never-kissed-a-girl and never-had-a-job lowlifes yell at the petite Malkin.

Arguments against idiots
Today's argument features the idiot who says something like 'Obama is right---America is selfish. We aren't living that basic principle from the Bible in the book of Matthew' to help the poor.
Here is the argument to help your idiot friend understand why Obama is dead wrong.

Media Falls In Love

Michelle Obama was the headliner for the Democrats last night at their Denver convention and she delivered a wonderful speech. Well, wonderful if you listened to the two 'news' anchors who commented after the speech that it was 'case closed' and 'wonderful' and 'couldn't have been done any better'. Oh, there's plenty more gushing from (take a wild guess) one of the networks last night.

Carbon Onsets
As you may have heard, they are going green at the Democratic National Convention. It's not going quite as planned---from the wood hotel room keys that didn't work to the failed fanny pack idea---the green freaks are feeling the heat as none of their stupid green tips work. Of course, they'll just blame that heat on global warming and SUV's, but that's another story. Read about the lunacy of the green movement:
Read the transcript.

Going green=killing bats
No one could have possibly foreseen that placing mammoth wind turbines that rotate enormous blades would affect bird-life. The birds, of course, could simply fly around the turbines, right? Well, turns out that some of these birds are just pretty stupid (or just plain daredevils) and they attempt to fly right through the moving turbine. But that's the least of the blood on the turbines turbine---bats are the latest creature being destroyed by the green invention---and it's NOT because they are crashing into them. Find out how they are dying:

Today's Idiot
Michelle Obama made her triumphant speech last night, and it was filled with just as many sweet nothings as a typical speech from her husband. While the speech convinced the ever so skeptical Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, it wasn't enough to convince Glenn. So next time your idiot friend attempts to talk about the wonders of America loving Michelle Obama---make sure you are prepared to fight back. Get your ammo in today's Argument against Idiots.
Read it here.

Raw Data
Most of the news networks have been focusing, for now, on the national polls when it comes to McCain vs. Obama. How will it shake out state by state? Stu takes a closer look at the polls in several states and gives cunning commentary to go along with the raw data in his
latest blog.

Glenn's Carbon ONset Program

The planet needs your help.

This week the Democratic party will attempt to hold its first convention that is totally green. They will talk about recycling, buying carbon offsets, and even serve multi-colored foods for some reason.

What's the problem with their going green? Well, the Democrats know all of these things are pointless gestures, but they're using them to try and convince voters that they love the earth more than Republicans. If this works they will put into place policies that will hurt our economy and cause real disaster--not the fraudulent type they constantly whine about.
Read the transcript.

What can you to help? Take part in our carbon ONset program. We are asking you to make just a few small sacrifices to completely wipe out any potential energy savings the Democrats claim credit for. (By 'energy savings', we mean buying their way out of the energy they'll use by flying in tens of thousands of people to a city so they can announce Barack Obama as their candidate. Seems like most people already knew that, but I digress).
Sign up for our carbon ONset program. Use more energy for mother nature. Do it for the earth (or more accurately, the people living on it.)

Why did Barack pick Biden?
We're told Joseph Biden brings the needed experience to Obama's campaign. Glenn goes through all of Biden's fabulous accomplishments and asks "Which one of these couldn't have Barack Obama done on his own?" And the really important question: "Why not just choose Jimmy Carter to be your VP?"
Read the transcript.

Also, get the reaction to the Biden pick from Glenn and several CNN commentators
here.

Barack's campaign song interpreted
Speaking of bizzare choices, today Glenn took a look at the lyrics to Obama's campaign song and it's got him wondering -- is this a message or do they just like the melody?
Vote here. Or if you have a different interpretation of the lyrics, send it to stu@glennbeck.com.

Arguments Against Idiots
Today's edition of Arguments Against Idiots focuses on what to say to your idiot friend who hates the rich. You know the type, they are constantly advocating for either a windfall profits tax or a 'leveling of the playing field'. Get the winning arguments
here.

Epicenter
Joel Rosenberg, author of
Epicenter: Why Current Rumblings in the Middle East Will Change Your Future joined Glenn on the radio today to discuss Russia, Iran and what he thinks is coming in the Middle East. Read the transcript.
